Dark roiling clouds, grey and menacing ,
And no rain falls.
Tense air, booming with thunder above,
And yet no rain falls.
My anxiety mirrors the weather,
Each feeding from each other.
And this tranquility under it all,
This calm that beckons movement.
The wind howling at my door,
And no rain falls,
The damp and shade that surely means a storm,
And yet no rain falls.
I lie down, tight as a spring,
I sit up at every noise,
I toss at every breeze,
And I keep expecting to hear something.
Something that is missing,
Something to tell me what is amiss,
Some sign, some signal,
Something to take me from this silence.
And only when I name you do I find it,
I find what was lacking, what was amiss,
Oh duckling, must you be so far away?
